Feeding your pet a balanced diet is the kindest thing you can do. Although you may feel tempted to feed your pet fresh meat, this can have detrimental effects on their health as well as yours (some raw meat contains a type of tapeworm that can be transmitted to humans). An enormous amount of research has gone into pet nutrition over the last 30 years which has resulted in a variety of diets to support your pet through each life stage.
Currently we stock the full lifestage ranges of the Royal Canin Veterinary Exclusive diets and Hill’s Science Plan diets for both dogs and cats. Both of these are superb diets and come highly recommended. However, we are in no way biased towards one or the other and we will be more than happy to spend some time with you to work out which diet will suit you and your pet depending on your circumstances.
Also available are veterinary diets which have been designed to work with your pet’s metabolism to overcome certain ailments. These diets are only available through your veterinary practice. Again we stock the full range of the Hill’s and Royal Canin diets for dogs and cats.
For smaller animals (rabbits, guinea pigs and hamsters) we recommend the Burgess and Science Selective ranges of foods mixed with hay and fresh vegetables. The amounts vary between these animals and we will be happy to advise you on the best ratio for your pet. For guinea pigs, Vitamin C deficiency is a major cause of disease, so despite this prepared food being enriched with Vitamin C, it is important for them to always have fresh food available.
If we do not have a diet you request in stock we can usually order it in for the next day, although sometimes it can take a little longer. When the bag starts running low, please give us a ring!
