We have recently upgraded our microchip to one that incorporates a Bio-Thermo thermometer which records your pet’s temperature. This means that along with the security of your pet being permanently identified there is the added bonus that he or she need never suffer the thermometer up the bottom routine! Your pet’s temperature is checked with the touch of a button.
A microchip is the only permanent form of identification routinely available in this country and we highly recommend every pet has one. It is also the first step you need to take when setting your pet up on the Pet Passport Scheme. Whilst it is necessary for your pet to be identified with a tag, this can come off or be removed if your pet is lost or stolen.
A microchip is a small plastic transponder which is inserted under the skin in your pet’s neck. It is encoded with a unique 15-digit number which is registered to your name and address. Any animal that is presented to a vet, rescue centre or police station after being found (or under suspicious circumstances) will be scanned by a special reader. Once your details have been obtained from the data bank you will be contacted and reunited with your pet as quickly as possible.
The microchip costs £40 including VAT and includes lifetime registration. Depending on your circumstances, we would normally do this procedure at your pet’s second vaccination or when they are here for neutering.
