Health Checks
We recommend that your pet has regular check ups and these are usually done at your pet’s annual vaccination. For older pets we would recommend 3-monthly check ups to allow us to monitor your pet’s weight as this can often be the first indicator that something is wrong.
If your pet is on a long course of medication we are required by law to do a check up every 6 months. Depending on your pet’s condition the vet may ask that we book a check up more frequently than this particularly in the early stages of diagnosis. These check ups are necessary to make sure your pet is receiving the correct dose of medication and that there are no side effects evident. This will often mean having to take a blood test to evaluate liver and kidney function, alongside red and white blood cell analysis.
Regular check ups are important to monitor your pet’s health and well-being and detect any signs of degenerative disease and advise you how best to keep your pet fit and healthy. Early detection of many conditions can prevent your pet’s health deteriorating further, if at all. If your pet has not been checked by a veterinary surgeon for more than a year we would strongly recommend that you book him or her in for a check up.
