A recent study by the University of Edinburgh (reported in the Evening Standard 7th Aug 2007) has shown that the incidence of feline diabetes is increasing. One in 230 pet cats in the UK has the disease. Neutered male cats that live indoors and Burmese cats are over-represented while being overweight increases the risk by a factor of three. (more…)

A report in yesterdays paper highlighted that dog theft in London has risen by 74 per cent in the last year. The most stolen dog is the Staffordshire Bull Terrier accounting for over half the dogs stolen in the London area. The reason for this increase is unclear but it has been suggested that Staffies are targeted by thieves to guard their “criminal assets”.

As from 15th November we will be starting a late night surgery on Wednesdays with consultations in the evening between 4pm and 7.30pm, hoping that this will ease a bit of the pressure on late afternoons and Saturday mornings. Please ring the surgery as normal to arrange an appointment.

It is estimated that only one-third of cats in the UK receive proper preventative healthcare. With this in mind, Royal Canin, Intervet and The Daily Mail have joined forces with Veterinary Practices across the UK to help raise awareness of care that is readily available to pet owners.

September 2006 is the third annual arthritis awareness month and we hope this year will be as successful as the last two. Thousands of dogs have been helped around the country by the veterinary practices that have taken part.

An estimated 1 million dogs in this country suffer from Osteoarthritis, experiencing pain, stiffness and lack of mobility. It is easy to attribute your dogs lameness, difficulty in climbing stairs or reluctance to walk to old age but if these symptoms are related to arthritis then your dog could be suffering in silence.
