The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) is the regulatory body for the veterinary profession. Membership of the College confers the right to practise veterinary medicine and surgery in this country.
In January 2005 the RCVS introduced an accreditation scheme whereby practice premises are rigorously inspected every four years to ensure they adhere to various stringent standards. Through setting standards and carrying out regular inspections, the Scheme aims to promote and maintain the highest standards of veterinary care.
These criteria concern a number of important areas including hygiene and drug safety, 24-hour emergency cover, staff training, reception and operating facilities, certain types of equipment and cost estimation procedures.
We are very proud to have been awarded accreditation as a Small Animal General Practice in November 2005. This offers you the peace of mind that your practice meets these rigorous standards and you can be sure that your pet is receiving the very best care. The Practice Standards Scheme is currently a voluntary initiative and not all practices are part of it.
